Why Power Users Should Never Stop Learning
When training is over and the laptops close, there's often a sigh of relief. Brains that had been lit up with learning start to calm. The material has a moment to absorb.
And while all that is happening, the leaders scan the room and think, "We've got a few power users now. We're set."
Not quite.
The challenge with training isn't simply learning the tools your organization invested in.
The challenge is keeping up with how the tools, your workflows, and your organization's needs continue to evolve.
The strongest users are actually never done learning. They're just getting started.
Why "Good Enough" can be a problem
Many users reach a point where they become comfortable.
They know a handful of prompts. They use a few favorite features. They settle into familiar habits.
What could be the problem here? Knowing their way around the tools is the point, isn't it?
The problem is, they stop discovering better ways to work.
Continued learning builds confidence
The products evolve constantly. Microsoft in particular is always looking for new ways to improve the tools and user experience, so one-and-done learning won't work.
What does work? Building on training with repetition and reinforcement.
As new capabilities are introduced, ongoing training helps users:
✅ Experiment safely
✅ Try new workflows
✅ Ask better questions
✅ Expand their skills over time
Confidence grows through practice, not exposure.
What about consistency?
Glad you asked.
Consistency matters. Going over the material again and again, practicing with hands on keyboards and building a cohort of like-minded learners is key.
Without it? Lots of complications that we don't need.
We find that teams develop different habits. Some going in one direction and some in the other, and they'll have a hard time meeting to drive productivity that way.
Best practices get lost. There are some clear paths toward tech success, and when we lose those best practices things get.... messy. Adoption becomes uneven. Which is unreliable. And unpredictable.
The opposite of what your organization is striving for.
Regular learning opportunities help everyone stay aligned and moving in the same direction.
Continued learning helps accelerate success
Some of the best Microsoft use cases come from users sharing what's working. Repeatability creates a space where ideas thrive, collaboration flows and success is inevitable.
Ongoing learning is the key. When teams have the freedom and capacity to explore ongoing learning, success spreads. Teams exchange ideas and adoption gains momentum. And best of all, new use cases emerge. More often than not, these benefit multiple learners.
Chances are, if one of us has a need, so does another. And sharing that in the training is the best way to retain the information and retrieve it when needed.
The goal isn't more training.
It's better outcomes from the training you're already doing.
Whether that's office hours, team Q&A sessions, monthly tips, or refresher workshops, ongoing support helps organizations continue building value long after the initial rollout.
Adoption isn't a finish line.
It's an ongoing journey of learning, refinement, and growth.
The organizations that continue investing in enablement are often the ones seeing the strongest long-term results.
