The Secret to Scaling Copilot Adoption
The thing about learning is..... it’s not really a destination.
I’d call it more of a journey.
There are rare instances where you learn something once and you’re done. Think about that. There are tweaks and iterations and progressions with everything.
Walking? Babies aren’t the most solid of walkers with those first steps.
Writing? Remember what your kindergarten printing looked like? It is highly likely that it looks much different now.
Surgery? I don’t know about you, but I’d personally prefer that my surgeons continue to learn, you know?
These are all journeys. Continual learning that makes you better at the skill at hand.
Why would Copilot training be any different? Can we really expect to be experts after a one-time training session?
I’ve learned a little something after, ahem, all these years of Microsoft training. There are levels of not only expertise that is reached through training, but also levels of enthusiasm. There are typically a few people in an organization that participate in the training with GUSTO, not begrudgingly. Not under duress.
They’re excited and curious and enthusiastic.
Those people become the confident facilitators inside their own organizations that help elevate the experience for the rest of the team. They are the go-to people, which we all have. The one that really gets it, and really wants to get it.
The familiarity that your team has with those facilitators is the way to true adaptation and scaling.
So, how do we maximize the training time we have?
Great question, I’m so glad you asked.
We plan for success.
When it comes to training, there are a few keys that make our collective time together click.
Before the session, we define an outcome. Not a vague ‘we just need to learn it’ kind of outcome. Something specific to you and your organization. Using real company scenarios. Prompts that will deliver. I get the feel for what will serve you best, and we drive the sessions from there.
During the session, we roll up our sleeves and get all up in it. We go to work with demos, practices, shares, and then rinse and repeat. There are struggles, of course. That’s where the best learning happens! I’m on top of the challenges, helping to identify the reasoning behind the scenes and then watching them get unstuck.
Of course, it doesn’t end there. After the session, we share the recording so that the participants can go back and review, pinpoint what they need and put it into real time work. Those enthusiastic learners? They are then the champions of Copilot (see our blog a few weeks back where we sing the praises of the champions!). The participants saw them soaking it up and they know their people will help to support them with positive energy to make the adoption really stick.
At Excel and Flourish, we’ve seen this happen enough to know it’s the true pathway to understanding. Getting your hands dirty in Copilot (figuratively speaking) is the best way to drive adoption, build champions and find the right path for your organization to win.
